That Rabbit Belongs to Emily Brown

That Rabbit Belongs to Emily Brown Review

My kids love this book, and I agree it's really cute.

But on the night before tax day, I am reading this book and realizing what a perfect metaphor it is.

A little girl has something good -- a rabbit. She has ideas and plans for adventures with her rabbit, and she knows that her rabbit belongs to her. It even has a name. It is HERS.

Rat-a-tat-tat -- representatives of the faraway and snobby Queen arrive one by one to try to get the rabbit. The Queen wants it. They offer to trade for the rabbit, and the goodies they promise in trade become bigger, sillier, and more useless. Emily wants to keep her rabbit, because it is HERS. She sends away the footman, the army, the navy, and the air force. Finally, the Queen's commandos sneak in and steal the rabbit.

The very next day, Emily goes to the castle, storms in and gets her rabbit back.

The pompous and self-righteous Queen, who demanded what did not belong to her, had already ruined the rabbit. Too silly to see what was good, the Queen wrecked it while she tried to improve it: turning it pink, changing its shape, and getting rid of its smile. Emily took it back, handed the Queen one of the goodies the Queen already had in a cupboard, and told her majesty to play with what she already had and be grateful.

Emily is my hero.

Not even for all the toys Emily Brown could ever desire.

So when naughty Queen Gloriana steals “Bunnywunny” away, Emily Brown sets out to get him back. Along the way, she shows the queen how to love a special toy of her very own.

This bunny has bounced into our heart. - Sheryl Johnson - Lehi, Utah
We checked this book out at the library so many times that I finally decided to just purchase it. My children love it. The story is whimsical and creative. It was a spring board for my children to daydream. It inspired new games and even made them prone to carrying around their own favorite toys. It is a must own book that celebrates childhood and imagination.

Great strong role model for little girls - Mom from Miami -
We love Emily Brown. She is imaginative, creative, fiercly loyal to her bunny, adventurous, and is polite but stands up for herself when necessary. Great characteristics for a little girl to emulate. The story is fun and teaches a great lesson. The writing is creative and the illustrations are great. My 2 year old adores this book and acts it out as we are reading together. Highly recommend this one... I buy it for everyone I know!

How to Train Your Dragon: Hiccup the Hero (I Can Read Book 2)

How to Train Your Dragon: Hiccup the Hero (I Can Read Book 2) Review

Reviewed by Cayden Aures (age 5 ½) and Mom for Reader Views (02/10)

"How to Train Your Dragon: Hiccup the Hero," an "I Can Read!" Level 2 book, focuses on Hiccup, a boy who didn't fit in with the rest of the Vikings on Berk. As the other teenagers were going through dragon training, Hiccup ends up capturing and befriending a dragon of his own.

Cayden: "This book had a lot of same parts as the `Meet the Dragon' book that we just read. Hiccup caught the dragon and was friends with him in the other book too. This one was a little bit different though at the end of it when Hiccup saved the day! My favorite parts were when they got the really bad, mean dragon and also when they were all riding on the dragons in the sky. I could read most of this one, especially since I learned a lot of the words already in the other dragon book."

Parent's comments:

"How to Train Your Dragon: Hiccup the Hero" is another interesting book based on the upcoming movie "How to Train Your Dragon." However, there were a few pages that were extremely similar to the first book "Meet the Dragons." The section where Hiccup captures the dragon and fixes his tail, befriends him, etc. was told twice, once in each book. Despite the repetition my son still enjoyed the book and is excited to go and see the movie!

How To Train Your Dragon Movie Hiccup Dragon Foam Sword

How To Train Your Dragon Movie Hiccup Dragon Foam Sword Review

This sword is awsome.. The nurf swords are actually too hard to be dueling around with a preschooler. My son and I love this one and it is just hard enough to be durable, while being safely soft. It is a nice length and can be used not only as the Viking sword from the movie, but as pirate, knight, etc. Design lends itself well to a multiple of pretend plays. We have had this for month now, and he pays with it a few times a day. I highly recommend it , as there are no pointed edges, it's soft, and seems to hold up to all a preschooler can dish out.

Dressering: Webster's Timeline History, 44 BC - 2007

Dressering: Webster's Timeline History, 44 BC - 2007 Review

Dressering: Webster's Timeline History, 44 BC - 2007 Overview

Webster's bibliographic and event-based timelines are comprehensive in scope, covering virtually all topics, geographic locations and people. They do so from a linguistic point of view, and in the case of this book, the focus is on "Dressering," including when used in literature (e.g. all authors that might have Dressering in their name). As such, this book represents the largest compilation of timeline events associated with Dressering when it is used in proper noun form. Webster's timelines cover bibliographic citations, patented inventions, as well as non-conventional and alternative meanings which capture ambiguities in usage. These furthermore cover all parts of speech (possessive, institutional usage, geographic usage) and contexts, including pop culture, the arts, social sciences (linguistics, history, geography, economics, sociology, political science), business, computer science, literature, law, medicine, psychology, mathematics, chemistry, physics, biology and other physical sciences. This "data dump" results in a comprehensive set of entries for a bibliographic and/or event-based timeline on the proper name Dressering, since editorial decisions to include or exclude events is purely a linguistic process. The resulting entries are used under license or with permission, used under "fair use" conditions, used in agreement with the original authors, or are in the public domain.

How to Train Your Dragon: Befriending a Foe

How to Train Your Dragon: Befriending a Foe Review

Reviewed by Cayden Aures (age 5 ½) and Mom for Reader Views (02/10)

"How to Train Your Dragon: Befriending a Foe" is about a boy named Hiccup who finds a wounded dragon in the woods and ends up befriending him and helping him to recover. The book is based on the upcoming movie "How to Train Your Dragon."

Cayden: "Again? We just read about Hiccup finding the dragon and helping him and being his friend in the other books! This one has a little more about it but why is it the same story over and over? I like the story but it is weird that the books all are kind of the same. In this one I liked the part that when Hiccup fed the dragon the fish that looked like a snake and the dragons teeth popped out of his gums to eat it. I also liked when Hiccup rode on the dragon in the sky."

Parent's comments:

This is the third "How to Train Your Dragon" book that we have read and they are all remarkably similar. They basically are all telling the story of Hiccup finding a dragon, becoming friends with it, and helping it by making it a mechanical tail so it can fly again. The degrees of detail in each story do differ a little though. I would recommend closely reading the descriptions of the books before buying and choosing one out of those that sound similar, otherwise you are essentially buying multiple copies of the same story each told in a slightly different way.

My 6 year old daughter LOVED the movie and was super excited when I came home with the book. She was not dissappointed and neither was I. Since she saw the movie with her dad, I didn't know the story and was quiet impressed.

More of a collector's item than a toy - David L. Alberta - Grand Rapids, MI
I recently found this product at a local Walmart. The toy is very durable and will be hard for a child to break. However, the toy is meant to be bendable; only the heads and the back of the tail move. Plus, the Zippleback is posed in a flying motion and does not move to a standing position. Thus, if your child wants to pretend to have the Zippleback walk on the ground and terrorize other toys, forget it! Plus the wings on these dragon figures are not easy to get in, and the Zippleback's wings are really not easy to get into place! I have these dragon toys as collectibles and not for playing with. But I would say if you are a parent reading this review and considering getting this toy for your child to play with, out of the larger figures I have been lucky enough to find so far, the Zippleback would be the least fun for a child to play with due to the fact only the necks and tails move and the figure cannot be converted to any pose other than the one it's already packaged as.

Also although this toy is larger than the Gronckle toy that I have it is still not worth paying a lot of money to get in my opinion. I paid only at Walmart and to be honest I would not pay much more if I had the choice. I find it ridiculous how much some vendors off Amazon and other similar websites want for these toys. If your child or collection can live without a Hideous Zippleback, save the money for the other three dragons. The toy is very nice and durable, but as I said earlier I would not pay much more than to get it.
